Communication Arts:

• Reading Logs will be sent home every Monday. Students are required to read 20 minutes per day, five days per week. Their reading logs must be filled out completely and signed by a parent/guardian. Completed reading logs must be turned in each Monday.
• A letter went home about literature extensions (book reports) last week. The literature extension for this quarter is due October 1st.
• Spelling ~ The district is using a new curriculum. We are waiting on the books to arrive before we can begin our lessons.
• Writing ~ Practice editing skills, review the writing process, write a letter to the student of the week.
• Reading ~ Introduction to literacy circles, guidelines for reading to someone. Students are required to have a book to read at all times.

Math:

• Introduction to math stations: Math facts, At your seat, Teacher's choice, and Hands on.
• Review of lesson 1.2.  Lessons 1.3 & 1.4
• Homework this week: Array worksheet (Tues.), Study Link 1.3 (Wed.) & 1.4 (Thurs.). Students should not work ahead on study links due to the fact they are practice for the lesson that day. 

Students will be given their account information for Everyday Math, and will tape it in their planners. You can access the Student Reference Book (SRB) and the Study Links (SL) online at http://www.everydaymath.com This is a great resource that should be very helpful throughout the school year. Students are also encourage to play the math games as this website and other websites I will be sharing as the year goes on.

Science:

• Scientific Method review: Savor the Flavor activity
• Decisions, Decisions Activity on classification
• Classification of Frogs Activity

Social Studies:

• Continuation of Geography
• Introduction to Landforms
