This Week's Connection

Where we are headed this week:

Communication Arts:
  • Discussions on abandoning books, genre's, and writing responses to reading.
  • Literature extension information went home last week.  First due date is October 1st.  Check the blog archive to see the information on literature extensions posted last week.
  • Weekly reading records were discussed last Monday then sent home. Completed reading logs are due back each Monday.  Please make sure you sign your child's weekly reading record.
  • Each Monday we will be writing a student of the week letter.
  • Introduction to Grammar Rules and Daily Sentence Editing.
  • Springfield Public Schools adopted a new spelling program.  Due to this adoption there will be some changes to how we do spelling.  More information will be coming in the next week so please do not worry if your student does not bring home spelling words this week.





Social Studies:
  • History of maps, physical and political maps, and landforms is the focus this week.
Math:
  • Everyday Math, Unit 1, Lessons 1.1-1.3. Study Links will be assigned nightly for homework.
  • Students will practice basic skills in multiplication through various opportunities. Also, please practice with multiplication flash cards at home.


Science:
  • Classification Activities and review scientific method
Miscellaneous Items:
  • No School on Friday (August 31) and Monday (Sept. 3) due to teacher work day and a holiday.
