Here is how we are going to succeed this week:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
- Literature Circles begin this week. This is where we take on different roles to discuss what we are reading.
- Literature extension due date is September 22nd. Click on literature extension to see what our students are doing.
- Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
- Grammar: Simple Subjects and Simple Predicates
- Writer's Workshop: Editing skills with capitalization.
- Reading Pillows ~ A note went home with students last week. Each child will need 1/2 yard of cotton material (no flannel, no fleece, and nothing that stretches) and a 16 to 20 oz bag of batting. The due date for this is now Monday, September 26th.
- Test will be on Monday, September 19th.
- Creating a fantasy island using several types of landforms.
- Baker's class is headed to Gray/Campbell on Thursday so we will be reviewing a bit of Gray/Campbell history.
- Monday - A worksheet will be sent home for homework tonight. There will not be any additional homework due to the Unit Test and the short week.
- The study guide for Unit 1 was due today, Sept. 19. Please note: Students will recieve extra credit for having a parent signature on their completed study guide.
- The Unit 1 Test is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 21.
- Please continute to work with your student to improve speed and accuracy of multiplication facts. Practice at home will help increase the success of the student. :)
- Measurement - we will be finishing up our unit of measurment.
- Monday - Metric Measurement Olympics!
- Tuesday & Wednesday - students will begin to learn and apply the principles of the Scientific Method.
- Several parents have requested the spelling list in advance. After much consideration, I have decided to go back to the spelling program I used last year.(Mrs. Hughes and I both feel that we cover the vocabulary in our curriculum and that building the students vocabulary should be the focus of Spelling/Word Study. A parent letter will be sent home today with the spelling lists for the next five weeks. A new choice board has been posted for spelling practice/word study. The choices will remain the same for the next five weeks. Students will have the freedom to make three choices each week to practice their words. (On short school weeks, they are only requried to complete two choices.)
- The spelling list for this week is posted on SpellingCity.com to help students learn the words and their meanings. The following link will take you to the list for this week (List 1). http://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=6209514&x=50e34
- Monday: Write words and choose two choices from the spelling choice board.
- Tuesday - Wednesday: Students practice spelling words by completing their choices from the spelling choice board. (This is homework and must be completed by Thursday.)
- Thursday: Assignments from spelling choice board are due. Spelling Test is given.
