What we are reaching for this week:

Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
  • Discussions on abandoning books, genre's, and writing responses to reading.
  • Literature extension due date is September 22nd.  Click on literature extension to see what our students are doing.
  • Weekly reading logs will be discussed on Monday then sent home. Completed reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
  • Students are writing a letter to based on a prompt. 
  • We will also be working on editing skills with capitalization.
Social Studies:
  • We continue with maps, longitude, latitude, and landforms this week.
  • Test will be on Monday, September 19th.
Math:
  • Monday - Thursday: Everyday Math, Unit 1, Number Theory (Lessons 1.7-1.9). Study Links will be assigned for homework. 
  • A study guide for Unit 1 will be sent home for homework on Thursday (9/15) and will be due on Monday, Sept. 19.  Please note: Students will recieve extra credit for having a parent signature on their completed study guide. The Unit 1 Test is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 21.
  • Mastery of multiplication and basic math skills is vital for the student to be successful as we begin more advanced mathmatical applications. Students will be given weekly oppotunities thoughout the year to improve accuracy and speed with basic skill by taking timed tests and playing math games. Also, any practice at home will help increase the success of the student. :)
Science:
  • Measurement - Metric & Customary Units. 
  • Monday - Linear measurement (Hands-on activities.)
  • Tuesday & Wednesday students will investigate measuring volume.
  • Thursday & Friday students will investigate measuring mass.
  • All fifth grade classes will participate in a "Metric Measurement Olympics" on Monday, September 19.
Spelling:

  • Monday: Write words and choose three choices from the spelling choice board.
  • Tuesday - Thursday: Students practice spelling words by completing their choices from the spelling choice board. (This is homework and must be completed by Friday.)
  • Friday: Assignments from spelling choice board are due. Spelling test is given.
