This Weeks Connection

Communication Arts: Students are required to have a book to read at all times.  They can bring a book from home, check one out in the library, or in our classroom.
  • Reading logs will be sent home every Monday.  Students are required to read a total of 100 minutes per week.  Reading logs must be filled out completely and signed by a parent/gaurdian. Completed reading logs must be turned in the following Monday.
  • Literature extension is due on Monday, October 1.
  • Literacy Focus: Summarizing
  • Writing Focus: Personal Narratives, Daily Sentence Editing
Word Study:
  • Monday: Introduction to spelling lesson, Write words in planner.
  • Tuesday - Thursday: Various spelling sorts, choices, and workbook activities
  • Friday: Test
Math:
  • Lessons 2.2-2.4 Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers and Decimals.
  • Homework: 2.2, 2.3, 2.4
Science:
  • Students will compare and contrast the similarities and differences of the characteristics between Nonvascular and Vacular plants.
  • Understand that plants get their energy from the sun.
  • Identify & describe what plants need to grow & be healthy.
  • Define Photosynthesis (The food making process of a plant) and identify 3 things plans need to make food (Sunlight, Water, Carbon Dioxide)
  • Explain Respiration (The passage of water through a plant from the roots through the vascular system to the atmosphere.)
  • Identify parts of plants and explain their function.

 Social Studies:
  • Create and complete Landform Project
  • Skyping with a special guest on landforms in Hawaii
  • Introduction to regions
  • Students will be given a study guide next Monday for their test on October 12
