This Week's Connection

I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true; I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what light I have. ~ Abraham Lincoln

Here is what we are learning this week:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
  • February Literature Extension will be due on February 29.
  • Keep filling out the reading logs for the Disney Acedemic Bowl.
  • Writing: Daily Sentence Editing and letter writing.
  • Review context clues, cause and effect, main idea, and inferencing through games.
Social Studies:
  • Students should be memorizing and practicing their speeches every night.  Once a speech is approved then no changes can be made.  Students already know this requirement. Click on this site as a reminder of this assignment: Night at the Museum
  • Props, tip cans, and costumes may start coming in and all are due here by Thursday morning
    • We are focusing on Data & Probability.  Students are learning to collect and use data to create various types of graphs. We are connecting this with our weather unit.
Math:
  • Students will be working individually to plan a survey, gather data and complete a graph. This project will be in place of a test grade. Students must survey 50 people by Wednesday. They will be doing most of the project during class time.
    • Science/Health:
      • We completed the KY3 Weather School Challenge! (We placed 22nd for Baker and 28th for Hughes out of 76...not bad for our first attempt!)
      • Students will be working with teams to learn about severe weather and will be presenting their information to the class.
      Spelling:
      • We will not have a spelling test this week due to our Night at the Museum on Thursday!

        Other Items of Interest:
        • Qdoba Night Today!
        • Fifth Grade Orchestra concert on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:00.  This event is at Cherokee Middle School.
        • Night at the Museum on Thursday, March 1st, 5:00 to 6:30. Please invite all your family and friends and encourage them to bring their change for tips.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email or call. Have a great week!
