Here is what we are learning this week:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
- Students will complete reading their author's study book and meeting with their groups to brainstorm on a new idea for a book by the author they are studying.
- No literature extension for the month of January.
- Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
- In writing we will be working on vocabulary and daily editing skills using a variety of activities on the smart board and games.
- We will be presenting our American Revolution Projects and completing the unit.
- We are doing some concept review on Monday. (Interactive whiteboard activities, computer games and worksheets.) Whatever students have not finished in class will be homework. (Odd numbered problems only!)
- We are beginning our unit on Division Tuesday. Homework will be assigned nightly.
- We are finishinging our investigation of body systems. Students have completed group assignments and will be working to complete individual projects in class this week. Many materials will be provided, but students may also bring additional materials from home.
- Please note: Mrs. Baker's classroom will have a donation box for used eyeglasses! Please allow your student to bring any used eyeglasses that you no longer need. These donations will be given to Lions Club International to assist people around the world with visual impairments.
- Due to the shortend school week this week and next week, I will not assign a new spelling list until the new grading period begins. The new parent letter/master list will be sent home on Friday, January 20th and new choices will be posted.
Other Items of Interest:
- Edmins Performance Series Testing will begin this week. Please encourage you student to take their time and do their very best!
- End of 2nd quarter is January 12th.
- No school on January 13 due to teacher workday.
- No school on January 16th due to Martin Luther King, Jr. day.
- A field trip for Eagle Days is scheduled for all 5th graders at Disney on January 20th. Permissions slips will be sent home this week.
