This Week's Connection

The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows. ~ Sydney J. Harris

Here is what we are learning this week:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
  • We will be starting our Author's Study Web Quest this week. Students have already been assigned an author and will begin reading their book in class. The reading for this Web Quest will be done during class time.
  •  No literature extension for the month of December or January.
  • Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
  • In writing we will be working on vocabulary and daily editing skills using a variety of activities on the smart board and games.
Social Studies:
  • We will be watching a couple of Liberty Kids videos to review what we learned about the American Revolution during the month of December.
  • Students will be given a project instead of a test over the American Revolution.  The project will be due on January 9th. Students should use their Social Studies textbook as their main resource for this project.
Math:
  • We will be learning about symmetry and completing a webquest in class.
  • There will be a worksheet for homework each evening to reinforce the concepts being taught.
  • We will begin our unit on Division next week.
Science/Health:
  • We will contintue our investigation of body systems and students will be working with partners to complete various in-class activities and projects.
  • Please note: Mrs. Baker's classroom will have a donation box for used eyeglasses! Please allow your student to bring any used eyeglasses that you no longer need. These donations will be given to Lions Club International to assist people around the world with visual impairments.
Spelling:
  •  No spelling list/homework this week!
  •  A new parent letter/master list will be sent home on Friday and new choices will be posted for next week.
