Literature Extensions will be due two times a quarter. Due date for the third literature extension is November 28th. We will spend time silent reading in class, but you will be responsible for reading your book at home, if necessary. Here is a list of guidelines for all book extension activities:
- Book choices must be approved by the teacher and at least 60 pages long.
- All activities must be completed by the student and ready to present on the due date. Any late reports will be given 50% off on the following day and no credit any time after that. Assignments not turned in will receive a zero.
- See below for a list of projects that you may choose from. New choices will be given each month. You may not do the same project twice.
Projects: Choose only one project to complete.
Flip Book
· Construct a flip book to retell your book. Using 2 sheets of white typing paper lay 1 sheet of paper vertically (up and down) in front of you. Lay a second piece of paper on top with the top edge approximately ½” below the top edge of the first paper. Fold up from the bottom (both sheets at once) to ½’ from the top of the second sheet. Then staple at the fold. (See the example that your teacher has.)
· Use the cover page for the book’s title, author, and your name and number.
· The second page for a description of the characters (who they are and what they are like) and a description of the overall setting of the book (where was it taking place and when was it taking place).
· The third page should summarize and tell the main idea of the book. Make sure to tell important details.
· The last page would a paragraph stating if you would recommend the book or not. Give at least 2 reasons of why or why not you would recommend the book.
· Write in complete sentences and in correct sequence. Spelling and neatness are also very important.
Accordion Book Timeline
· Create an accordion book timeline in order of the events that happened in your book. Make sure you have put the title of the book, authors’ name, and your name on the cover page. Create a timeline in order of the events that happened in your book.
· Make sure you have put the title of the book, authors’ name, and your name on the page. Choose five to seven significant scenes from your book. Make an illustrated accordion shaped book that reveals the sequence of your book's storyline. Include some written descriptions, such as: What's happening in the scene? Why is this scene important to you?
· See teacher for example of accordion book.

The purpose of the brochure is to be able to notate literary elements while reading a book.
