This Week's Connection

Here is how we are being creative this week:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
  • Literacy Focus: Figurative Language Quiz on Wednesday.  Begininng discussion on theme.
  • Literature Extensions due November 28th.  No literature extension for the month of December.
  • Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
  • Writer's Workshop: Using the writing process, we will be completing on our writing Web Quest, "Oh, What a Tangled Web We Weave" . Next, we will be starting our poetry unit.
Social Studies:
  • Chapter 8, The Colonies Unite. pp. 294-331
  • Fighting For Control:The French and Indian War.
Math: 
  • We will begin a unit on coordinate graphs. Students will learn related vocabulary and practice plotting coordinates.
  • There will be homework to reinforce our learning. (Monday-S.L. 9.1, Tuesday-Worksheet, Wednesday, S.L. 9.2, Thursday. S.L. 9.3)
Science:
  • Students did a great job creating posters and presenting informaiton they learned about famous scientists/inventors!
  • This week we are finishing up our investigation of invertebrates. We will also be "creating animal cells" to better understand the similarities and differences between animal cells and plant cells.
Spelling:

  • Students will be required to complete 2 choices from the spelling choice board and must be turn them in by Friday.
  • Friday - test for List 9.
Health:
  • We are beginning our body systems health unit.
  • For the next four weeks, we will have special guests, Jerry & Judy Young, from the Springfield Host Lions Club, coming to our classrooms. They will be providing community service information/activities in an effort to raise awareness of the visually impaired. Through their efforts, students will learn about gadgets/technology, the leader dog program, white canes, and the Heartland Eye Bank.
  • Mrs. Baker's classroom will also have a donation box for used eyeglasses. We encourage the donation of any used eyeglasses. These donations will be given to Lions Club International to assist people around the world with visual impairments.

Other Items of Interest:
  • Reminder--Wed. is picture retake day. We have retake forms available if needed.
  • Friday will be Kickapoo Spirit Day - students are encouraged to wear Kickapoo attire or their school colors (brown and gold).
