Here is what we will be achieving this week:

Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
  • Literacy Focus: Fact and Opinion
  • Hughes ~ Island of the Blue Dolphin Chapters 25-27
  • Baker ~ Number the Stars Chapters 15-16
  • Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
  • Grammar: Gender Nouns & Singular and Plural Nouns
  • Writer's Workshop: Review steps of the writing process. Introduction to our writing web quest.  No cursive this week.  
Social Studies:
  • Students will be learning about the thirteen colonies over the next few weeks.
  • Introduction to the New England Colonies: Settling, Economy, and Living.  There will be a worksheet with each lesson this week.
  • Test over the New England Colonies on Wednesday, November 2nd.
Math:
  • Unit 2 Test - today (Oct. 24).
  • Tuesday begin Unit 3 - Geometry Exporation. Students will be assigned Study Link 3.3 for homework. Thursday's homework will be Study Link. 3.4. 
  • Please continue to work with your student to improve speed and accuracy of multiplication facts. Ask them about their progress in becoming a five-star general! Many students have recently earned their first star! Practice at home will help increase the success of the student. :)
Science:
  • Projects for investigation of matter are due this Wednesday, OCT. 19.
  • We continuing with our Life Science Unit focusing on Trees & Plants. 
  • Leaf Project requirements were sent home last week. Students had a great time on the field trip to Close Memorial Park and hopefully gathered most of the leaves they will need. The Leaf Project will be due on Wednesday, November 2.
Spelling:
  • No Spelling this week due to the students being off on Wednesday and the grading period ending on Tuesday.
  • The parent letter & next five word lists were sent home last week. New choices for the choice board will be posted.
Other Items of Interest:
  • It's Red Ribbon Week Spirit Days! Students are encouraged to dress up. (Monday - 70's Day, Tuesday - Class color is Black, Thursday - Boots, Friday - Hats.)
  • 1st quarter grading period ends on Tuesday.
  • NO SCHOOL on Wednesday due to teacher workday. 
  • MATH NIGHT on Thursday, October 27, 5:30 to 6:30.  Hope to see you there!
  • Dominos Pizza weekend starting Thursday through Monday.
  • PTA Fund Drive will continue through this week!
