Here are the treasures we will be looking forward to this week:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
- Literacy Focus:
- Hughes ~ Island of the Blue Dolphin Chapters 13-18
- Baker ~ Number the Stars Chapters 9-10
- Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
- Grammar: Nouns
- Writer's Workshop: Review steps of the writing process.
- Fifth Grade attends the Lit Fest on Friday at Missouri State.
- Begin the unit on Colonization. Focus will be on Jamestown, Roanoke, and Plymouth.
- Baker field trip to Gray Campbell Farmstead on Tuesday
- We will continue to focus on multiplication strategies, problem solving, place value and story problems. NO Study Links this week, but a worksheet will be assigned as homework each evening (Monday-Thursday).
- Please continue to work with your student to improve speed and accuracy of multiplication facts. Ask them about their progress in becoming a five-star general!Practice at home will help increase the success of the student. :)
- Continue Chapter 1 in Physical Science. Our big question is, "How can you describe matter, mixtures, and solutions?" In order to answer this question, students will be investigating and exploring matter through many hands-on activities, reading the text book and related information, taking notes, and watching videos.
- Please note that the Test for Chapter 1 will not be given this week. Students will complete their investigation of matter this week and will be given a choice of assignments to demonstrate their understanding of the material. We will have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday for this unit.
- The spelling list for this week is posted on SpellingCity.com and is helpful for to students learn the words and their meanings. The following link will take you to the list for this week (List 4). http://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=3576665
- Monday: Write words and choose three choices from the spelling choice board.
- Tuesday - Thursday: Students practice spelling words by completing their choices from the spelling choice board. (This is homework and must be completed by Friday.)
- Friday: Assignments from spelling choice board are due. Spelling Test is given.
- Thank you to everyone who made it to Open House last Thursday. It was great to meet each one of you. If you did not make it please make sure you sign up for a conference in November.
