Here is our direction for the week ahead:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
- Introduction to the Literacy Station Board
- Literacy Focus: Setting, when and where
- Hughes ~ Island of the Blue Dolphin Chapters 10-15
- Baker ~ Number the Stars Chapters 7-10
- Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
- Grammar: Simple Subjects and Simple Predicates
- Writer's Workshop: Editing skills with capitalization.
- Complete the review of regions of the United States. All Regional Maps due by Friday.
- Hughes to Gray Campbell Farmstead on Friday
- Continuing with Unit 2. (Please note that I will be skipping some lessons and will not be following the exact order of the book for the Lessons and Study Links.) This week we will cover lessons 2.7, 2.8, 2.9. These lessons will focus on magnitute estimates and multiplication strategies. We will continue focusing on problem solving strategies, place value, and story problems.
- Homework for Monday - Wednesday will be Study Links for Lessons 2.7, 2.8, 2.9. There will not be homework assigned on Thursday or a quiz on Friday due to Open House.
- Please continute to work with your student to improve speed and accuracy of multiplication facts. Practice at home will help increase the success of the student. :)
- Continu Chapter 1 in Physical Science. Our big question is, "How can you describe matter, mixtures, and solutions?" In order to answer this question, students will be investigating and exploring matter through many hands-on activities, reading the text book and related information, taking notes, and watching videos.
- Test for Chapter 1 will be on Monday, Oct. 10. Students will be given a study guide on Friday.

- Monday: Write words and choose three choices from the spelling choice board.
- Tuesday - Thursday: Students practice spelling words by completing their choices from the spelling choice board. (This is homework and must be completed by Friday.)
- Friday: Assignments from spelling choice board are due. Spelling Test is given.
- Mid-quarter grades will go home on Monday.
- Art Museum Field Trip on Thursday morning.
- Open House on Thursday. 5:30 to 6:30
- Book Fair this Thursday.
- Mrs. Baker's field trip to Gray Cambell Homestead next week (Tuesday 10/11).
