This Week's Connection

Here is what meaningful life experiences we are having this week:
Reader's & Writer's Workshop:
  • Students will work with their groups to brainstorm on a new idea for a book by the author they are studying and create a Power Point presentation.  Work is done in class. Final product due on Monday due to Friday's field trip.
  • No literature extension for the month of January. Choices for February will come home this week.
  • Completed weekly reading logs are due back each Monday and must be signed by the parent.
  • In writing we will be working on vocabulary and daily editing skills using a variety of activities on the smart board and games. Focus this week is word roots.
  • Grammar: Verbs and their tenses.
Social Studies:
  • A Constitutional Democracy. pp. 412-419.  Students will begin working on their government projects.  These projects will be done in class and all final products are due February 1st.
  • We will begin researching famous Americans for our Disney's Night at the Museum.  Students will use multiple resources to research their Famous American.
Math:
  • We are continuing our unit on Division. Homework will be assigned nightly to review the concepts covered in class
  • There will be a Division quiz on Thursday. Also a study guide for the Division Unit Test will als be sent home on Thrusday.each student on Friday.. 
Science/Health:
  • We are continuing our Vertebrate Uinit, students will focus their studies on Eagles. They will work as teams to  complete a webquest. Each student will be required to complete a 1-2 page paper in class and complete a group poster by the end of the week.
Spelling:
  •  Parent letters with spelling word lists for the next five weeks were sent home on Friday.
  • Spelling practice - New choices have been posted and students must complete their two choices by Friday. They will also be required to complete a cursive writing worksheet which will count as a writing and spelling grade. 

Other Items of Interest:
  • Edmins Performance Series Testing will continue this week. Please encourage you student to take their time and do their very best!
  • Penny Wars continues until Friday!  A note went home last week explaining everything.
  • McTeacher's Night is Monday at the Kingsley McDonald's from 4 to 8.
