A Note From Mrs. Hughes

As we enter the final month of school learning does not dwindle in our classroom.  Here is where we are headed this week:
 
Math: 
  • Students are working on a WebQuest about area and perimeter called Dream House Design.  Check out the WebQuest to see what they will be creating.
  • House Designs due by Thursday.
  • No Study Links this week.
Readers Workshop:
  • We are reading the last few chapters of the book Around the World in 80 Days.
  • Celebration activities on Around the World in 80 Days are this Friday.  We will have a multicultural day in which students may dress up from another country.
  • May Literature Extension are due MAY 20
Social Studies:
  • Chapter 12 ~ We have begun our time in the Civil War era.  The final culmination of this chapter will be a day in a Civil War camp.  Camp Disney is May 19th.
Word Study (spelling): Prefixes com-, con-, trans-, inter-
  • Monday: Create study guide and choose three choices from the spelling choice board.
  • Monday - Thursday: Practice spelling words using their choices from the spelling choice board.
  • Friday: Test
Science/Health:
  • Students were assigned teams according to what they wanted to experiment.  Teams are filling out their paperwork and when it is completed they will bring home the instructions for completing the experiment this weekend. They will need to record their data and bring it to school on Monday to complete the project.
  • Students will be working on a Nutrition WebQuest with Mrs. Baker.
Writing:
  • Student of the week letter.
  • French lessons begin this week with the help of Kickapoo students. 
Other bits of information:
  • To experience changing classes like in Middle School, students will be switching approximately two times a week to take health from Mrs. Baker. I will be teaching Social Studies to both classes.
